Review: Iroha by Tenga: Yuki, Midori and Sakura

Iroha is a new line of vibrators designed by Tenga. Best known for their male masturbatories, Eggs and Cups, Tenga has finally decided to try their hand at the female market with the introduction of the iroha line of vibrators.

When I first saw the pictures, I was confused. They didn’t look like anything else on the market; they didn’t even look like vibrators. They reminded me of some of the strange Japanese anime characters that my children are so fond of. I knew that we here at Swingset needed to review them.

Tenga was nice enough to send us all three of the new iroha massagers: Yuki, Midori and Sakura. Their names, interestingly enough, are Japanese for their color. Roughly translated: Yuki = snow, Midori = green, Sakura = cherry blossom.

Each iroha arrived in rather interesting packaging. A black sleeve with the iroha logo and a picture of the toy within held two boxes together. The top one was the color of the massager, while the bottom one was white. The colored box contains the massager held in place by cardboard in its plastic charging/storage case. The white box contains a micro USB cord, a USB to 240V wall plug and an instruction book in several languages.

Taking the massager out of the cardboard, I noticed the unique feeling of the vibrator. It is made of a layer of FDA approved silicone over a phthalate-free Polyurethane Elastomer with a core of ABS plastic.

I don’t even know how to describe the feeling without sounding bizarre. The silicone is silky smooth, as soft as the proverbial baby’s bottom. When squeezed the polyurethane elastomer gives an almost gel filled feeling over a hard core. When I asked some friends, I was told that it feels like a marshmallow or that it like a stressball made of something like a latex balloon filled with sand. It feels so nice in my palm that I have trouble putting it down, even to write this review.

The first thing I noticed besides the texture was the smell. The iroha have an odor from what I assume is the polyurethane elastomer. I was told that it would dissipate in time and while it has gotten less, I do still notice it upon occasion.

The iroha use a magnetic charging system by sitting on the bottom of the plastic storage box. The box measures 3.75” in length and width and 2.25” tall. There is a light on the front of the plate that is on during charging and off when the vibe is fully charged. Charging time is 2 hrs for about 1.5 hours of play.

Each massager has 2 buttons to control its functions. There are 3 speeds (low, medium, high) and 1 rhythm (pulse) setting. The vibrations are very quiet and can barely be heard from underneath a blanket.

Each vibrator is shaped differently for a different type of stimulation; though all are roughly palm sized and flat on the bottom.

top_popup_imagegallery_1The Yuki is white and shaped roughly like a snowman (or a shmoo). It is intended for more external and internal clitoral stimulation, as the top of it is insertable. The overall length of the Yuki is approximately 3.5”. The “bottom ball” of the snowman is 2.25” in diameter, while the “top ball” has a diameter of 1.25”.

top_popup_imagegallery_2The Midori is green and shaped like a pear. It is intended for external stimulation and is recommended as a vibrator for first time users. The overall length of the Midori is approximately 3.25”. The bottom circle of the “pear” is 2.25” in diameter, while its to

top_popup_imagegallery_3The Sakura is pink and is ovaloid with a v shape cut out. It reminds me of an oval pacman or a fish head. The v shaped cut out is meant to be used to “embrace” the clitoris, nipples or labia. The length of the Sakura is 3.5” and its width at the widest part is 2.25”. The v measures ½” on each side.p knot has a diameter of about 1” in diameter.

    My Thoughts:

While I was unable to orgasm using any of the iroha massagers, I did enjoy using them. The vibrations are focused in the correct region of the toy. They do not get more diffuse the further away from the core one is. I absolutely love the texture. I seriously could not put them down. I ended up carrying one around as a stress ball for several days!

There are some issues that I would like to see addressed in the future versions or additions to the iroha line of massagers.

Firstly, they are NOT waterproof. I prefer toys that are waterproof as it makes it easier to clean and more versatile to use.

Secondly, there is a seam where the silicone meets the plastic control panel. This is difficult to clean and could trap bacteria.

Finally and most importantly, my hand would go numb from the vibrations while holding them long before I was excited enough to orgasm. This was very distracting.

I would really like to see a fully insertable vibrator from iroha; one that has decent girth and length; one that is waterproof and one that allows me to hold it without vibrating the nerves in my hand to numbness. In the meantime, I do suggest you check out the iroha vibrators: Yuki, Midori or Sakura, if only to feel the texture.
