Review: Unpredictable by Great Sex Games

I'm not gonna lie. There was a time, not too terribly long ago, where Marilyn and my sex life was sort of stale. We had sex because we didn't want to be one of those couples that didn't have sex weekly.  It was usually quick, uninspired…sorta dull. This was before we learned about this super awesome thing you can do called SWINGING! Yes, swinging, enhancing sex lives since the fifties. (Actual decade may vary.)

So why am I telling you this? Well, ‘cuz we bought lots of books. From The Guide To Getting it On (Which is a wonderful and funny text book about all things sexual) to Sex for Dummies (actually quite a fun read) to The Better Sex Guide (you know, those huge books you find in the sexuality section with all the nudie pictures in them…) to even getting one of those videos from The Better Sex Video Series (where they interrupt mediocre porn with floating heads of sex experts who are often not as appealing as even the mediocre porn.  What did all of these have in common? (Aside from being somewhat amusing and informative to downright frightening?)

None of them helped. We'd flip through books, pick a new position to try, try it for a while, then go back to our standard methods.

Now, swinging has made our sex life far more interesting, and thus by its very nature more varied.  It's allowed us to try things we wouldn't have dreamed of trying before, since now we're more comfortable with our sexuality.  Still, we tend to fall back on the same type of things (just have more fun with them…)

Which brings me to Unpredictable from Great Sex Games.  I have been a fan of Great Sex Games and the podcast that runs alongside it Sex Is Fun for quite a while now, but this was the first time I'd actually been able to play one of their games.

Unpredictable is a card game consisting of 53 cards each with a different sex act on it, portrayed in hilarious and lovely fashion by an adorable cartoon couple. The sex acts range from tame: Naked Embrace, Intimate Gazing, Passionate Kissing to advanced: Rusty Trombone, Gimme a Hand (fisting), and Strap it On (pegging).

You and your partner take turns drawing five cards and selecting one until you each have four selections.  Then, both of you choose from those eight cards until you have four to do for the night.  Then you do them.

    SIMPLE!

Simple, and really rather brilliant.  The big difficulty with the books is paging through all these things, looking at them together, giving it a yay or nay and moving on.  Usually you set the book down when you find your new thing for the night.

With Unpredictable, both Marilyn and I chose cards that surprised the other.  I said “Really?” twice out of the four cards she flipped down.  Showing that even two people who've graduated to “advanced sex” can still be surprised by something their partners want to do.

Highly recommend Unpredictable by Great Sex Games!  While some of the “moves” may be intimidating, the cute cartoon people seem to be having a blast, and that really does help a surprising amount!
