Masturbation Doesn’t Mean Solo Sex Anymore – Here’s Why

    0
By Emma Wells on September 13, 2019 Articles

Say the words masturbation out loud and you can rest assured that anyone within earshot will immediately think of a solitary person sitting in a room giving in to their desires for some sexual release. Mutual masturbation is something that exists of course between two or more people but this is more often categorized as sex than it is masturbation, although in practice the lines aren’t so cut and dry. Either way, the point of view I’d like to establish right now is that masturbation has largely been conceptualized as something enjoyed by a single person, with them in control of the entire experience.

Leaps and bounds in technology are eroding that conception more and more with each passing day. The pleasurable effects of masturbation can now be given, shared, and customized thanks to Bluetooth enabled sex toys that are quickly rising in popularity. If you aren’t privy to these developments, let me explain:

What Are These Toys Capable Of?

There are numerous toys out there now that can pair either to another sex toy or to someone’s phone so they can control the toy, with the only requirement being that all devices be connected to the internet. At first, these toys were very rudimentary, but now they’ve taken the shape and form of just about every popular kind of masturbatory aid on the market. From vibrators to male masturbators to everything in-between, controlling a sex toy remotely has never been easier. Of course, these toys can’t be controlled by anyone who doesn’t have the proper permissions from the owner, consent is still as vital as it should be in these digital encounters.

How Are These Toys Being Used?

Early on these toys were essentially just a novelty – something couples couple play with while in the same room as each other to shake things up a little bit. Don’t underestimate the creativity of those with an internet connection and a horny disposition however, new and interesting ways to use these toys have sprung up and even created industries in and of themselves.

Some toys are used by webcam entertainers in which control of the toy can be given in exchange for donations or tokens. Differing amounts of money can translate into pulses, vibrations, or other toy movements that will immediately be felt by the performer. In this way, the viewers gain control over what the performer will be feeling & experiencing and pay a premium for this.

Other toys like the Lovense Lush 2 can be hooked up to very extensive apps like the Lovense Remote app to eliminate any feelings of loneliness while deciding to get down to business. There’s a portal in which people can seek out strangers to pair their devices up with and whose only connection is that they both own compatible toys. The amount of information shared between partners can be as minimal or as in-depth as they possibly choose. In fact, this year Lovense even operated an event known as the Lovense Orgy in which hundreds of people all had their toys controlled remotely based on what hashtags people were tweeting on Twitter. The real-time effect of this was hundreds of people all writhing in joy simultaneously due to the exact same stimulation.

Another large group of users of these toys are long distance couples who wish to maintain their bond of intimacy while apart. Either partner can control the other’s toy with their smartphone or even hook up complimentary toys in a way that sex can be effectively replicated, with sexual tension rising and waning as each partner does what they can to pleasure the other.

By this point in time, thousands of people have become acquainted with this technology, effectively meaning that there have been thousands of orgasms that happened in a masturbation-like environment, but have some of the more collaborative aspects of a true sexual encounter.

    Conclusion

It’s fairly simple to see why this kind of tech is appealing, only recently has the level of sophistication actually reached levels where people are turning their heads en-masse. There’s nothing wrong with needing some private “me time” to sort out some of your sexual energy, although that’s not to say a helping hand isn’t something we’ve all at least considered in the heat of the moment. Now that consideration can become a reality thanks to these powerfully interconnected toys.
