Review: Dr. Love and GetMaxxx Lubes

0

Over the past week, we've been testing and experimenting with the Dr. Love and GetMaxxx brand lubes from Futuring USA.  We've tested thoroughly both the silicone and the water based (with aloe) lube.  At the outset, they both work gangbusters.  The bottles are well designed so that the lube comes out through a pump at the top, and only comes out in a tiny amount, allowing you to have real control over how slick you want to get.  We did find their serving size to be a bit lacking, and needing many pumps to get what we wanted.

Both Marilyn and I started out by testing the water based lube with aloe independently.  I used it with the Fleshlight (which of course can't use silicone) and she used it with one of her new favorite toys, Close2you's Sinfonia.   I noticed at the beginning that it was slick and felt a lot like silicone lube, making it perfect for Fleshlight play.  A few minutes in, I had to reapply, which isn't unusual as the interior of my Fleshlight is the “classic” model, which means smooth.  But a few minutes after that, I noticed that it started to get sticky, and not just a little sticky, REALLY sticky.  I put the Fleshlight aside and reapplied and tried on my own and again, fairly quickly, sticky…   Marilyn's experience was similar, it also got sticky, but it seemed to dry up too quickly as well for her.  Stickiness in lubes comes from glycerin, which also has been known to cause yeast infections in SOME women.  Unfortunately glycerin is a common component in many water based lubes, and this is one of them.  Once the sticky is washed off, though, the aloe present in the water based lube made my skin feel quite soft.  One way to avoid the sticky is to not reapply, but instead add water (or spit, since you probably have that handy…)   The water based still felt a little thin to us.  (An aside, if your partner [or you]are a gusher like Marilyn, a thin water based lube is really all you need.)

Our experience with the silicone lube was a marked improvement.  This doesn't need to be reapplied nearly as much, but doesn't go as long as you'd hope from a single squirt.  I was finding that five or six was enough to get things really slick.   Use on a toy was good (a wooden Treeze vibe, actually, review forthcoming…LOVED it!) but it really shined as a lube during sex.  One of my favorite things about a good silicone lube is the entire area on both of us feels very soft in the aftermath, so lying there, basking, gentle touching feels really good.

I wish I could recommend both, but of the two we were really only happy with the silicone.  Still searching (and ever vigilant) for the perfect water based.

One day we'll find it!
