(Plug Warning- Plug for 2 great organizations and one great author ahead. Totally deserved, but plugs nonetheless).
I listened to this cool episode on the way back from The Widener University Sexuality and Aging Consortium’s Sexuality and Aging Institute held w/in the Woodhull Alliance’s Sexual Freedom Summit (2 plugs down, one to go). I am saying that since it may be informing my comment somewhat.
It occurred to me that one thing the long time couple may want to add to the clearly needed communication agenda might be the changes in sexual response and desire as one ages. The lack of interest may be, at least partially, due to changes in what turns partners on as the body gets older and/or simple changes in desire and/or changes to how desire is generated. Besides talking w/their doctor(s), a book such as Joan Price’s ‘The Ultimate Guide to Sex After 50’ might help (you were waiting of that third plug, weren’t you?).
You’re posting resources man… keep the plugs coming.

I disagree VERY strongly with the political statements at the end of the podcast. There would be no serious vote to defund PP if they were not butchering babies and doing things that are expressly forbidden by the Hyde Act and other federal laws. You cannot force people to fund things that they are vehemently against.
There are plenty of other options for women’s healthcare. The supposed great things that PP does are done other places, so it is not as if those services will not be available to women. Give us a break. The “war on women” is a fabrication. No, it is not hard to be a Republican. The alternative is to be a socialist/communist of the Democrat party, the party that is plunging us into an Alinsky-ite upheaval and total loss of freedom.
Don’t assume that Republicans are against fun. I am more conservative/libertarian than 99.5% of other Americans. I am completely in favor of fun and want government OUT of our bedrooms, our kitchens, our backyards, our wallets, our healthcare, etc.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree, but I would love to debate the policies of the socialist Democrats vs the policies of my side.

The government forces all of us to fund things we’re vehemently against.
You know how we’re increasing the amount we all pay for abstinence only education? I don’t agree, in fact I vehemently disagree. If I could select out of paying for abstinence only education I would but unfortunately we collectively voted people into office that passed laws saying these are “good ideas” ™ despite incredibly clear and universal data that they are terrible ideas. I complain, but I don’t try to defund it. If we elect someone willing to change the law great!
IF you don’t like that Planned Parenthood exists I both am truly sorry that you live in a world where it does, and truly not sorry that I and millions of women around the country live in a world that it does. That Planned Parenthood gets funding from the government is because it provides vital healthcare to women at or below cost that they won’t get elsewhere at any reasonable rate. It serves the underserved. It’s vital to the nation’s healthcare structure. That they perform abortions as an incredibly small percentage of their work (aka: butchering babies) is something you vehemently disagree with is terrible to you and people who feel the same way.
It’s still illegal to shut them down, it’s improper in come cases or illegal to defund them, and well… your tax dollars will continue to fund Planned Parenthood. If you don’t like it, elect politicians that will do something to make Planned Parenthood UNNECESSARY.
Until then we’ll agree to disagree on where life begins, agree to disagree that a woman controlling her own body always equals someone tearing babies apart, and you can crow as much as you want about wanting the government out of your bedroom, kitchen, backyard, wallet, healthcare, etc… until you need the police, the fire department, the water and sewer department, your particular state’s medical board to certify your state’s physicians, your assessors to resolve a dispute between you and your neighbors, or any other vital services a functioning government provides.
