Review: Hydra Personal Lubricant by Intimate Organics

All lubes are not created equal.

I worry that I'm going to start running out of ways to begin my lube reviews.  I mean, without talking about how many lubes I try, how good and bad some of them are, how I'm partial to certain ones, how I can't figure out why they can't get the formula right on others, about how much lube we swingers go through on a regular basis….Well, I guess I just went meta.

Which brings me to a disappointment.  The Intimate Organics lotions and oils product line is so SPECTACULAR, that when I pulled the Hydra Personal Lubricant from the box, I was thrilled to try it.  After all, this would be one of the very first water based lubes I've tried that completely jettisoned the glycerin, which can cause bacterial growth and yeast infections in women, so this was a big plus.  However, glycerin is also the component in most water based lubes that allows it to stay slick longer.

Right out front…we prefer silicone lube.  It's smoother, slicker, lasts longer, etc.  But we have a lot of silicone toys as well as other toys (Like my Fleshlight) that can't handle silicone lube either.  The quest for the perfect water based is ongoing.

And continues.

It's with a sad heart that I report that the Hydra lube is a disappointment all the way around.  First and foremost is the staying power, it's almost non-existent.  I had to reapply many times and within a few thrusts or strokes, it had already evaporated.  Next, as I was using it, I smelled something funny.  I got concerned, as I'm a stringent toy cleaner (boiling the silicone toys and everything), that some monstrous germs may have gotten by, but couldn't find the source of the smell.  Needless to say it was an unwanted distraction that I only discovered the source of afterward when I smelled the lube.

It's organic, and smells organic, and when evaporating, it becomes somewhat pungent.  I'm well aware that my sense of smell, and my sensitivity to scents may be different than many, and there likely are plenty of people who like the organic scents, but it was a total turn off for me.

Again, I can't state enough how great many of the other Intimate Organics products are, but the Hydra Personal Lubricant is a disappointment.

  1. I first introduced the Hydra by a hippie girlfriend and his hippie girlfriend, both big fans. It is a lubricant that I have happily gone out to buy with my own money and then I started to comment on sex toys.
