An Open Letter from Shira B: Blowjobs with Condoms – Safer Oral Sex

Condom FailureHey there Swingsetters and Pedestrians!

There are a few things that make me feel a little weird and isolated: the look from other people I get when I grab a wedge of lemon and happily pop it into my mouth and devour it, the funny feeling I get when I go into a really rich person's house, and, of course, people's reactions when I tell them I give blowjobs with condoms. It's true! I like blowjobs with condoms. They're hot. You should think so, too.

As a partnered polyamorous woman, I can't take the same risks single people do. My safer sex practices, or lack thereof, affect all of my awesome partners so I try my best to be as safe as possible. This means that when I have oral sex with new or untested partners, I use oral barriers. If I didn't.. and then caught an STI.. and then gave it to my OTHER partners.. I'd feel like a complete dick. So. I wrap that shit up. In efforts to help spread the safer oral-sex love, here are a few of my quick and dirty tips for making blowjobs with condoms hot:

  1. Use the stigma! People think that blowjobs with rubbers are pointless, don't feel good, and are silly looking. If you are with a new partner, use this stigma to your advantage! Make it a sexy challenge. Explain what you want to do; you want to suck their dick, use protection, and you can't WAIT to prove all their misgivings wrong by giving them an awesome blowjob even while keeping it safe. Smile! Wink! You're eagerness to show him a new trick will get him excited and way more likely to buy in. Once you do this, you've gotten both of your headspaces into a really sexy place; a place of sexy competitiveness and anticipations.. and that is half the battle.
  2. Condom: You want one of those condoms that are looser at the tip and shaft than at the base. Trojan's Ecstasy is a great condom line to try out in this case. This allows for some wiggle room in the condom. Wiggle room is important. I'll explain in tip 4.
  3. Lube, yo! Lube is really important when giving blowjobs with condoms. Don't rely on pre-lubricated condoms. You want to get some of the really thick ‘gel' water-based condom-safe lube. Warm it up (very important) and apply liberally into the INSIDE of the condom before rolling the condom on the male-bodied person. You want it to be really wet and squishy in there. The thicker gel will assist with that. So.. now we have sexyminds, wiggle-room condoms, and phat gel. Now.. Let's suck some dick!
  4. Now that we're down to business, there is only really one thing to remember. The reason why bjs with condoms suck is because you're removing the sensation of direct-on-the-skin friction by strapping a tight condom on the poor guy's dick. But we're doing this different; we have a looser condom and squishy lube that will allow us to move the condom against the skin of his dick. So when you're sucking his dick, be sure to manipulate the condom so that it is rubbing against his dick. If you lick tight plastic that is stuck next to skin, it's not going to do much as far as sensation goes. But by moving the squishy, lubefilled condom up and down his shaft as you suck, you will be stimulating the skin on his dick a lot more efficiently.

I've taught a lot of friends these tips and they have pretty great results. Just a few disclaimers – HPV and HSV are transmitted skin to skin, too, not just via fluids. So you're not eliminating risk of transmission by using condoms, but you're reducing the risk significantly.

So! Go out there. Suck some dick..  and do it safely!
