Warning: Pedestrian Polyamory Ahead – Swingset’s New Polyamory Podcast
Hey guys, I know just what the world needs. Another polyamory podcast. That’s what I think, anyhow. It’s not that there is a drastic shortage of polyamory information out there. There is actually quite a bit of educational information is available and a lot of it is really rather good. There are web-based poly primers for newbies, books like Sex at Dawn, Opening Up and The Ethical Slut for intellectuals, podcasts like Polyamory Weekly for listeners who want to keep it personal, and lots of real world meet-ups and social groups.Yet, it seems to me that all of these resources are missing a certain something.
You know what I think it is? The information available to people interested in polyamory these days is either a) focused on evangelizing polyamory, b) integrated into new-agey stuff, or c) produced by people who are incredibly new to polyamory and are very excited about it. Without diving too far into the evangelical or new-age rabbit hole, I will simply say that the novelty factor of polyamory information might be the most grinding on my sensibilities. Bright eyed and bushy-tailed, the world of polyamory education comes at you with information that is not only great advice and guidance but is also a little, you know..much. I don’t know about you guys, but sometimes I need to information from a skeptical, seasoned, logical viewpoint. I want to talk to someone who knows that sometimes polyamory sucks. Sometimes polyamory isn’t the answer. Sometimes polyamory isn’t anything special at all – sometimes it’s just kind of normal.
Maybe it’s an overdose issue. How many podcasts have you listened to, or blogs have you read for that matter, that have been produced by people who are only 2 years into the experience of being non-monogamous? It’s almost its own step in the process of becoming non-monogamous.
Step 1: Hear about non-monogamy as a valid relationship model.
Step 2: Learn as much as you can about non-monogamy from blogs, articles, and podcasts.
Step 3: Broadcast or publish your own content as you try it out for the first time.
This is where Pedestrian Polyamory comes in. Pedestrian Polyamory is a spin-off of the Life on the Swingset podcast hosted by myself, Shira B. Katz, and my husband, Gavin Katz. We are normal, skeptical, logical and slightly geeky poly folk who have nearly 20 combined years of polyamory under our belt. We’re certainly not sages or experts but we aren’t novices and we aren’t trying to sell you anything. We just want a realistic and normalized viewpoint on polyamory out there because, truly, after all these years polyamory is kind of pedestrian.
So, when and where can you listen? I’m glad you asked. Pedestrian Polyamory’s first episode will be featured on the main Life on the Swingset podcast on October 9th. After that, you can find us on iTunes or right here on LifeontheSwingset.com. We hope you listen!
About Shira B. Katz
Shira B. Katz is a co-host of the Life on the Swingset podcast, bringing a pansexual and polyamorous viewpoint to the show. Shira also hosts Pedestrian Polyamory, a podcast on the Swingset network that focuses on polyamory and all of it's glorious (and not so glorious) features. When not writing articles, podcasting, or otherwise extolling the virtues of polyamory, Shira can be found in the wild getting crushes on nerds, lusting after boykisses, and fussing about in the San Francisco Bay area.
